DALTON REED PRESENTS

A Roadmap to Your Dream Home

INTRODUCTION

Dalton Reed Interior's Margaret Rohr introduces the Roadmap to Your Dream Home vide series.

PART ONE: FUNCTION

Key points:

  • What need does the room have to serve?

  • Does it need to serve multiple purposes?

  • Put it in writing & let it guide you throughout the process.

PART TWO: MOOD

Key points:

  • Choose the color pallet on location.

  • Look at paint swatches in your home at three times: morning, noon, and night.

  • Order a "brushout" for a bigger sample of your paint swatch.

  • Select your sheen: flat for ceiling, satin or eggshell for your wall, and semi-gloss for your trim.

PART THREE: ARTWORK

Key points:

  • Don't hang art too high. Eye-level is the goal.

  • Gallery walls can be fun! Have a common theme for artwork. Keep them 3-4" apart from each other and keep frames similar (not the same, necessarily!) to unite the grouping.

  • Don't shy away from using 3D elements.

PART FOUR: DECORATING SOURCES

Your interior decorator is your best resource! Here are other vendors we like:

  • Crate & Barrel and CB2

  • AllModern.com - chairs, stools

  • Anthropologie - Bohemian

  • Etsy - art

  • Watch the full video for more!

PART FIVE: DECORATING MISTAKES

Key points:

  • Scale is important! Draw out your room and estimate how large you want each piece to be.

  • Window treatments should go to the floor.

  • Make sure your rug is large enough to encapsulate your furniture.
